The Garmin fēnix for Black Friday 2026 splits into three main choices: the fēnix 8 in AMOLED or Solar, the fēnix 8 Pro with satellite and LTE, and the older fēnix 7 Pro with solar charging on every model. The fēnix E is a pared-down 47 mm AMOLED fēnix 8. Start with the screen, then the case size.
fēnix 8: AMOLED or Solar
Garmin launched the fēnix 8 in August 2024 in two screen types. The AMOLED version comes in 43, 47 and 51 mm cases. The Solar version uses an always-on memory-in-pixel screen behind a solar charging lens and comes in 47 and 51 mm. In the 51 mm size, Garmin rates the AMOLED for up to 29 days in smartwatch mode and the Solar for up to 48 days.
Both share the main hardware: a 40-meter dive rating, leakproof metal buttons, a built-in speaker and microphone, and an LED flashlight. Titanium bezels and sapphire lenses are options, and sapphire models carry preloaded topographic maps.
The fēnix 8 Pro followed in September 2025. It adds inReach satellite messaging and LTE for calls, LiveTrack and SOS without a phone. It comes as AMOLED in 47 and 51 mm and as a MicroLED version in 51 mm only. Those connected features need a subscription, and coverage depends on the country.
Garmin fēnix watches to compare
Match the generation and the version in the listing title, such as fēnix 8 AMOLED or Solar. Then check the case size and look for the charging cable in the photos.

fēnix 7 Pro: solar on every model
The fēnix 7 Pro series from May 2023 uses a memory-in-pixel screen and solar charging across the range, with an LED flashlight and multi-band GNSS on every model. The names map to sizes:
- fēnix 7S Pro: 42 mm
- fēnix 7 Pro: 47 mm
- fēnix 7X Pro: 51 mm
Each comes in a standard or a Sapphire edition. If a listing says only “fēnix 7” without “Pro”, it is the earlier model that came before the Pro, so check the product page for its features before you compare.
fēnix E: the 47 mm AMOLED option
The fēnix E arrived alongside the fēnix 8 in August 2024. It comes in 47 mm only, with a 1.3-inch AMOLED screen under Gorilla Glass and stainless steel bezel options. It leaves out the LED flashlight, the sensor guard and the inductive dive buttons of the fēnix 8, and it has 16GB of storage against 32GB. It still carries topographic maps plus ski and golf maps.

Reading a fēnix listing
Read the title for four things in order: the generation (7, 8 or E), whether it says Pro, the screen (AMOLED, Solar or MicroLED) and the size in millimeters. Sapphire in the name tells you about the lens and, on the fēnix 8, the maps. Then check for the charging cable and, for a used watch, that it has been removed from the previous owner’s Garmin account.
Frequently asked questions
Is the fēnix E a cheaper fēnix 8?
It shares the fēnix 8 generation but trims the hardware. The fēnix E comes only in 47 mm with a 1.3-inch AMOLED screen, and it leaves out the LED flashlight and half the storage of the fēnix 8, while it keeps topographic, ski and golf maps.
Do I need a subscription for the fēnix 8 Pro?
Only for its satellite and LTE features. Garmin says messaging, calls, LiveTrack and SOS over inReach and LTE need an active subscription, and coverage varies by country. The rest of the watch works without one.
Which fēnix lasts longest on a charge?
Among the fēnix 8 models, the 51 mm Solar version is rated for up to 48 days in smartwatch mode, against up to 29 days for the 51 mm AMOLED. Smaller cases hold smaller batteries.
