The Roomba j series covers the j7 and j9 robot vacuums and their Combo vacuum and mop versions, released between 2021 and 2023. For Black Friday 2026 they are older models, sold alongside iRobot’s newer numbered robots. Check which j model it is, whether the plus sign means a base is included, and the condition.
j7 and j9: what changed
The Roomba j7 and j7+ arrived in September 2021. They introduced PrecisionVision, which spots and steers around obstacles such as power cords and pet waste. The plus version adds the Clean Base, which empties the robot’s bin into a bag.
The j9+ and Combo j9+ were announced on September 11, 2023, together with iRobot OS 7.0. The j9+ is listed with double the suction of the other j and i series models, and both j9 models gained Dirt Detective, which builds a customized cleaning plan from your map and cleaning preferences.
| What to compare | Roomba j7 or j7+ | Roomba j9+ |
|---|---|---|
| Released | 2021 | 2023 |
| Suction | The j series baseline | Listed at double the other j and i series models |
| Base in the box | Only on the plus model | Yes, the plus sign is part of the name |
On the Combo j9+, iRobot lists cords, pet waste, socks and shoes among the things PrecisionVision steers around. That matters most in a home with pets or a floor that is rarely cleared before a run. Both models have the camera, so between a j7+ and a j9+ the higher listed suction and Dirt Detective are the main differences.

| Roomba Combo j9+ | 2023 | Auto-Retract mop that lifts to the top of the robot | Clean Base Auto-Fill |
The Combo j7+ shipped from October 4, 2022, as a j7+ with a lifting mop. The Combo j9+ pulls its mop up onto the top of the robot to keep carpets dry. Its Clean Base Auto-Fill dock empties debris for up to 60 days and refills the mop liquid for up to 30 days, according to iRobot.
For the newer mop robots with a roller or spinning pads, see the Roomba Combo page.
Buying an older Roomba
The j series robots predate the numbered line-ups iRobot launched in 2025 and 2026. iRobot’s US page for the Combo j9+ showed it as not currently available in October 2026, so many j series robots on sale now are remaining or refurbished stock.
Spares still exist. iRobot’s replacement bag 3-pack lists the Clean Base for j series robots and the Combo j9+ Auto-Fill dock. Before you buy, check that the battery, brushes and filters are in good condition or new, and read the warranty terms on any refurbished robot.
The iRobot Roomba Black Friday guide covers the company’s 2026 ownership change and its current range.
Questions to ask the listing
Is it a j7, j7+, j9+ or a Combo? Does the photo show the right base, and is a bag fitted? Is it new, open box or refurbished, and who covers the warranty? A title that says only “Roomba j” needs the full model name before you can compare it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Roomba j7 and j9+?
The j7 came out in 2021 and introduced PrecisionVision obstacle avoidance. The j9+ followed in 2023 with stronger suction, Dirt Detective, which builds a customized cleaning plan, and a self-emptying base included.
Is the Roomba j series discontinued?
The j series predates the numbered Roomba line-ups iRobot has launched since 2025. On iRobot's US site, the Combo j9+ page showed the robot as not currently available in October 2026, so expect to find j series robots mainly as remaining or refurbished stock.
Can I still buy bags for a j series base?
Yes. iRobot's replacement bag 3-pack lists the Clean Base for j series robots and the Combo j9+ Auto-Fill dock.
