Garmin vívoactive Black Friday 2026: vívoactive 6 or vívoactive 5?

The Garmin vívoactive for Black Friday 2026 is a choice between two models: the vívoactive 6 from April 2025 and the vívoactive 5 from September 2023. Both have an AMOLED screen, Garmin Pay, music downloads and up to 11 days of battery. The 6 adds a brighter screen, a smart wake alarm and more running detail.

What the two share

Garmin describes the vívoactive as a health and fitness smartwatch. Its other lines, from the Forerunner running watches to the Venu, are on the Garmin Black Friday guide. The vívoactive 5 has a bright AMOLED touchscreen, a lightweight aluminum bezel and a silicone band.

Both models carry the same core features:

• Garmin Pay for contactless payments at supported checkouts and transit systems
• Music downloads from Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer, which need a subscription
• Up to 11 days in smartwatch mode

At launch Garmin also listed sleep coaching, Body Battery, stress tracking, HRV status, Pulse Ox, a wheelchair mode, menstrual cycle and pregnancy tracking, and more than 30 preloaded GPS and indoor sports apps for the vívoactive 5.

What the vívoactive 6 adds

Garmin calls the vívoactive 6 screen brighter than before. The other changes are in software:

• Smart wake alarm: it watches for a lighter sleep stage inside a window you set, then wakes you with a light vibration.
• Running dynamics: cadence, stride length and ground contact time.
• PacePro: pacing guidance adjusted for the climbs and descents on a course.

Running dynamics describe how you run rather than only how far and how fast. Cadence is steps per minute, stride length is the distance covered per step, and ground contact time is how long each foot stays on the ground. PacePro uses the elevation of a planned course to set target paces, so the watch asks for a slower pace on a climb and a quicker one on the way down.

If you mostly walk, do gym classes or want the health metrics, the 5 covers that. If you run regularly and want pacing help, the 6 is the one built for it.

The two models share black/slate, but the other colors differ, which helps when photos look alike.
